Saying Goodbye: The Alea Reid Interview

The Pennsylvania music scene is a diverse community, a spider web of people who know a person who knows a person. Someone who’s a very well connected node of that web is Sascha Frost. He’s a pillar of the creative community, supporting so many unique acts in Altoona, PA and surrounding areas, including Eighty Unplugged! He’s been a pleasure to work with and learn from. So, when he asked if we would like to be a part of the MNTG Music and Arts Festival, we were happy to agree! After brainstorming different ways we could represent Eighty Unplugged, we decided we would try to do a live episode!

Eighty Unplugged Live!

On August 9th 2025, the Eighty Unplugged podcast successfully completed our first ever live show and livestream episode! It was such a great learning experience. We wanted to deliver something special in spite of the intricacies that come with having a live audience, both in person and online. That’s why we were super excited to have this episode's featured songwriter, Alea Reid, to be our inaugural live guest.

Alea Reid

A multi-talented artist from Hollidaysburg with an amazing singing range, Alea Reid joined us for the 9th episode of Eighty Unplugged. The MNTG Music and Arts Festival aims to lift up artists from Altoona and surrounding areas. As an up and coming staple in that very scene, Alea Reid is the perfect guest for this location.

Alea Reid embodies the idea of an independent artist. She controls 100% of her music process, from songwriting to music production. Although she has always grown up with music around her and in her heart, she only started seriously pursuing music and songwriting in the past 2 years. Her vocal chops and lyricism are reminiscent of some of her musical inspirations like Adele, Billie Eilish, and Ariana Grande. It takes a long time for most artists to commit the confidence Alea emits. You can find Alea Reid frequently playing her original music at open mics, local news stations, and on her social media profiles.

“Georgia”

On this episode, Alea Reid performed her song,”Georgia,” for a live audience.

After giving us a soulful acoustic ballad, she sat down with us to discuss the background and inspiration. She wrote “Georgia” as a way to say goodbye to where she used to live, but also to her childhood. It is a song that tells a real story, something Alea hopes will speak to everyone emotionally.

    Not in Georgia, anymore

Packed my bags, I’m out the door

Not the little girl, I was before

    Not in Georgia, anymore

    It’s okay, I won’t cry

    It’s okay, I’ll survive

    Goodbye, Goodbye to the memories

Goodbye, it’s been a hell of a ride

Goodbye, I’ll still hold you tight

    Goodbye, Georgia please don't cry

    Don’t cry

Older now, should have it figured out

Instead I daydream, up in the clouds

Guess it’s time, I come back around

    Not in Georgia, anymore

Not the little girl I was before

    I don’t know where I’ll go

    But I'll be alright

    Goodbye, Goodbye to the memories

Goodbye, it’s been a hell of a ride

Goodbye, I’ll still hold you tight

Stay plugged in to Eighty Unplugged by subscribing to the podcast and following on all socials. I want to give a big thank you to Alea Reid and all the fans for making this episode possible.
